Cheng Fangqin, was born in Linyi, Shanxi province in July, 1964. She is a professor and doctoral supervisor, a State Council Expert for Special Allowances, an executive director of the National Eco-Industry and Circular Economics Association and now a member of the Standing Committee of the Party Committee and vice principal of Shanxi University.
In 1986, Cheng graduated from Taiyuan University of Technology.
In 2002, Cheng obtained a master’s degree in chemical engineering from Taiyuan University of Technology
In 2007, Cheng obtained a doctorate in analytical chemistry from Shanxi University.
In March 2007, Cheng was awarded Shanxi province’s "May 1 Labor Medal".
In October 2007, Cheng was recognized as a senior contact expert of the Shanxi Provincial Party Committee.
In February 2015, Cheng was granted the honorable title of National March 8 Red-flag Bearer.
Professor Cheng Fangqin has been engaged in research and industrial applications for low-grade waste resources recycling and pollution control.
Peers say she has made remarkable progress in high-value utilization of low-grade salt lake resources, combustion utilization of inferior coal, pollution control and high-value utilization of low-quality coal.
In recent years, Cheng has hosted seven national-level projects and 15 provincial and ministry-level projects, including those for the National 863 Plan Project, National International Science Cooperation Project and the National Natural Science Foundation of China.
Cheng has also published more than 150 papers in international and domestic journals, including papers on desalination, bioresource technology and on industrial and engineering chemistry research.
Cheng also published three monographs, obtained 27 invention patents and compiled three local standards.
She also won second prize of the National Science and Technology Progress Award and the first and second prizes of the Shanxi Science and Technology Progress Award.
Cheng also cooperated with the Institute of Process Engineering of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the University of Science and Technology Beijing to establish the Low Value-added Coal-based Resources with High-value Utilization Collaborative Innovation Center.
Cheng also helped establish the State Key Laboratory of Environmentally Friendly Coal Waste Recycling and Efficient Utilization Technology, the National and Local Joint Engineering Laboratory of Coal Chemical Waste Comprehensive Utilization Technology and the Shanxi Provincial Key Laboratory of Coal Pollution Control and Resource Utilization.
