Comment on "Protection for Great Wall urged" (China Daily, July 18)
The western section of the Great wall, which is mainly in Gansu province, was built in the Qin (221-206BC), Han (206BC-AD220) and Ming (1368-1644) dynasties. After such a long time the Great Wall has been seriously eroded by elements and has become every fragile.
I have visited the Great Wall in Gansu province and was amazed by this great ancient wonder. But I'm afraid the Great Wall in the western areas hasn't been as well preserved as that in the eastern areas. This is due to many reasons such as the weather and the low level of economic and tourism development. We should not sit by and watch the great historical sites deteriorate. It's the authorities' responsibilities to protect and maintain the Great Wall for the nation and our children.
