Every individual, corporation, and nation experiences some crisis on their course to growth and success. No exceptions. The ULTIMATE question is whether the person/people making the decisions at the top have the ability correct course before it is too late. In observing the ability of China to make change, I think China has that ability. China is unmercifully protective of its long term prosperity (raising living standards, maintaining politic stability, defense against foreign cultural intrusion, etc), and it seems they are willing to make short term sacrifices to achieve it. I believe current Chinese leaders know that certain current steps taken are hugely unpopular, but they have calculated the long term risks to be manageable for future success.
