3. Five Spring Mountain Park
With 2,000 years history, Five Spring Mountain Park is at the foot of Gaolan Hill southeast and is a landscaped park of Lanzhou city.
The park is named for its five crystal springs. Legend has it that Han Emperor Wudi sent General Huo Qubing to defend the northern border which was under attack by Huns in 120 BC. When the his troops approached the Gaolan Hill thirsty and tired, they found no water there. General Huo tried to find water. When he whipped a stone with rage for failing to find water, five crystal clear springs gushed out supernaturally. The springs still flow today.
The park contains many temples and pavilions built in Ming Dynasty (1368-1644) and Qing Dynasty (1636-1912). Also many activities, such as annual Temple Fair, are held in the park. It is a place to enjoy the beauty of temples and mountain scenery.
