At a recent meeting of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, top leader Xi Jinping said that China needs to seize the opportunities and cope with the challenges in order to build a fairer global governance system.
The fast development of emerging market economies and other developing countries has brought fundamental changes to the global power structure, said Xi. For centuries, it was colonial and hegemonic powers that dominated the making of international rules according to their interests; now it is common sense for all nations to establish just rules and defend international justice.
Besides, economic globalization is also promoting the interdependence among different nations and binding them to each other. Increasingly more challenges are cross-border ones that can only be tackled through the coordinated efforts of many nations.
Therefore, strengthening global governance and reform to suit the new conditions is an inevitable trend. The new global governance system must be not only more efficient, but also more just so that every nation can realize its potential and serve the common good.
China's initiatives such as the Belt and Road, and forming a world community of shared destiny, all serve to make the global governance order more just and increase China's shared interests with other nations. China will continue defending the UN Charter and positively maintain an open world economic pattern against trade protectionism and other unjust moves.
