Sanmenxia, a major city in western Henan province, has jumped into the information era with its drive to build a 'smart city'. Its cooperation with a major telecom provider will further boost its efforts.
On September 4, the municipal government signed a strategic cooperation framework agreement with China Telecommunications Corporation's Henan branch to jointly construct Sanmenxia into a smart city.
By applying technologies such as cloud computing and the Internet of things, a smart city could digitalize all urban infrastructure facilities and adopt digitalized management, services and decision-making procedures concerning urban land, resources, ecology, environment, population, economy and social affairs.
Mayor Zhao Haiyan said at the signing ceremony that informatization is a trend in economic and social development. The city and China Telecom's Henan branch have been cooperating to construct telecom infrastructure, electronic information and the Internet of the things. Such cooperation has been very fruitful.
She said the new framework agreement marked a new and higher start for further cooperation. The agreement will be of far-reaching significance in improving the city's IT construction and applications, promoting industrial upgrading and adjustment and elevating the city's management efficiency. The mayor said Sanmenxia will seize this opportunity to further strategic cooperation with China Telecom. She also hoped that China Telecom will improve its services and make further contributions to the economic and social development of the city.
Liang Baojun, general manager of China Telecom's Henan branch, said building a smart city is a way to spur innovation and an important tool for economic transformation. The signing of this agreement shows that the Sanmenxia Party committee and government cherish and attach importance to the construction of a smart city. He believes that the cooperation will further improve Sanmenxia's competitive edge and promote the city's healthy social and economic development.
