Ancient coins bear great significance to monetary research in Zhongyuan

A total of 504 ancient Chinese coins were discovered in a village of Shanzhou district in Sanmenxia, Henan province on July 12.

Li Shuqian, curator of Sanmenxia Museum, stated that this is the first time for a large number of ancient coins to be unearthed in Sanmenxia, and they would be of great significance to the development and research of the monetary history of Zhongyuan, or China's Central Plains.

After consulting a number of studies, archaeologists identified the coins with remarkable regional features, as fruits of agricultural civilization of the middle and late period of the Spring and Autumn Period (770-476 BC), which bear great importance and meaning to the research of Zhongyuan cultures.
