Beware bees on the expressway!

The last thing you would expect on an expressway is a swarm of bees, but that's exactly what happened in East China's Zhejiang province.

A van carrying 150 beehives got rear-ended by a heavy truck on the Haining section of the Jiaxing-Shaoxing Expressway and rolled over, releasing more than 5 million bees at 4:20 am on Tuesday, chinanews.com reported.

"The bees were purchased from Shaoxing for more than 200,000 yuan ($31,943), and if they all die, we will have nothing left at all," the driver said.

Five bee keepers were called to the scene by the driver to assist the policemen and firefighters to clear up the lanes. After almost 7 hours of fighting the bees, 5 people had been stung and finally the expressway returned to normal around 11:00 am.
