"It’s a real shame that many college students can’t read A Dream of Red Mansions (the classical Chinese novel) completely. The Britons respect Shakespeare; Russians worship Tolstoy; and the French value Alexandre Dumas, pere and fils. But, China has hit low tide in the public reading of our own classics. Reading is voluntary and we should cultivate the reading habit starting from the younger generation."
