The audience for China Central Television's Spanish channel is about to get a boost. Known as CCTV-E - the channel is now available on broadband cable TV, via Spain's Telefonica company.
The launching ceremony was held in Madrid on Friday at the headquarters of Telefonica, one of the leading telecom operators in Spain. The ceremony was attended by a Chinese delegation led by the Director General of the State Administration of Radio, Film and Television of China - Mr. Wang Taihua.
According to the agreement between China Central Television and Telefonica, CCTV-E, the Spanish-language service will be carried on the IPTV platform of the telecom company. It will reach a considerable share of the domestic population in Spain.
CCTV-E's round-the-clock broadcasts focus mainly on news, but also contain features, cultural programs and TV series. Targeting the Hispanic world, the service is meant to promote exchanges between China and Spanish-speaking countries. So far, it has been made available to a great number of countries in Central and South America.
Wang Taihua says he believes that with Telefonica's advanced technical support and management, as well as strong advertising and service, more people will be able to access CCTV's programs.
