A year of celebrations has kicked off at the International Toy Fair in Nuremberg, Germany, although Barbie's official birthday is not until March 9.

Barbie has pursued more than 100 careers since she hit the shelves in 1959, but she still has her iconic blonde hair and tiny waist, and boyfriend Ken has remained the only man in her life.
On average, three Barbies are sold each second, which is why the brand is opening its first flagship store in March with a six-story “retailtainment” mecca in Shanghai, China, that also features dining options and a spa.
In Paris, fashion boutique colette will feature a capsule apparel collection by designer Jeremy Scott. Dylan’s Candy Bar in New York will also be part of the celebration.
