'Slumdog Millionaire' hits Chinese screens

Oscar winning British director Danny Boyle attended a news conference for the movie "Slumdog Millionaire" in Beijing on March 25. The film is being screened in over 2,000 theaters across China.

The Academy Award-winning film secured a coveted slot as one of 20 major foreign movies that China will import this year

The low-budget tale of romance tells the story of a young boy and his brother from the slums of Mumbai who are forced to fend for themselves after their mother is murdered in a riot. As a teenager, desperate to locate his childhood sweetheart, the lead character Jamal goes on India's version of 'Who Wants to be a Millionaire' in order to draw attention to himself, and is soon one answer away from winning the jackpot, and love.
