China today is celebrating the 88th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China (CPC).
On Monday, Hu Jintao, general secretary of the CPC Central Committee, presided over a meeting of the CPC Central Committee Political Bureau.
Hu called for a vigorous improvement of inner-party democracy in order to enhance the Party’s ruling capacity and leadership in the development of China.
Hu said mechanisms ensuring the inner-party democracy - such as the CPC congresses at all levels - must be improved, as well as the system to elect, supervise, evaluate and promote government officials. Hu also gave festival greetings to nation’s party members.
Chinese military’s party members celebrated CPC’s 88th anniversary by reviewing their vows of entering the party in front of the party’s flag. Singing competition was held among soldiers to praise the party as well as the country.
In some old military base areas, such as Xibaipo and Zunyi, soldiers visited revolutionary museums to learn the party’s history.
Local party branches and governments also held meetings to commemorate the 88th anniversary of CPC.
