There were long lines for tickets yesterday when the new China Science and Technology Museum publicly opened, with over 100,000 people visiting the exhibits.

Located inside the centre of the National Olympic Green, the massive structure looks like it was constructed from oversized Tetris pieces. The new museum is one of the biggest in the world, occupying a land area of 48,000 square meters and with a construction floor space of 102,000 square meters.

Visitors, mostly school-aged children accompanied by their parents, lined up for hours to experience the museum. The exhibits are divided into five themes: “Children’s Science Paradise,” “The Glory of China,” “Exploration and Discovery,” “Science, Technology and Life,” and “The Challenges and the Future.” Four special effects theatres, including IMAX and 4D movies, await patrons.

An exhibition featuring nationwide innovative activities of teenagers since the Reform and Opening-Up will also be there until September 25.

The museum is open from 9:00 am to 4:30 pm, Tuesday to Sunday. Tickets cost 30 yuan for adults and 20 for students.
