The Battle of Tai'erzhuang, an important victory during the War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression, made Tai'erzhuang a historic town and a household name across the Taiwan Straits.
The town in Shandong province has introduced a number of measures to attract Taiwan tourists.
The old town of Tai'erzhuang was highlighted at a special conference held in Taipei's Agora Garden on Tuesday. The two-square-kilometer district of Tai'erzhuang sits near the only well-preserved hydraulic system on the Grand Canal.
Surrounded by water, Tai'erzhuang features classical bridges, an old water transport system, wetland parks, temples, museums and architecture of a bygone era.
About 20 major cities and 30 travel agencies from Shandong and Taiwan signed agreements for exchange programs and visits. Those are expected to bring about20,000 Taiwan visitors to Tai'erZhuang each year.
