Students from Tsinghua International School held their first-ever art auction at the Kempinski Hotel Beijing on Jan 27.
With help from Sotheby's Auction House, the students sold 102 pieces, including Chinese and Western paintings, paper cutting works, sculptures and Chinese calligraphy. The students from Tsinghua International School and its neighbouring Tsinghua Middle School created the majority of the artwork at the auction. Four masterpieces donated by professors of Tsinghua Art Academy and parents of students.
The auctioneers were all students in seventh grade. After a few lesson from Sotheby's Auction House, they hosted the event fluently both in Chinese and English.
The 37 students earned 159,700 yuan, all of which will be donated to UNICEF, one of the most widely recognized charity organizations in the world for women and children.
Tsinghua International School charity campaigns started in December 2011 with students baking and selling cookies. This is the first time that the school has cooperated with Sotheby's Auction House and Kempinski Hotel.
