Cmdr. Cappy Surette, a Navy spokesman at the Pentagon, said some of the sailors were placed in medical isolation, despite the new cases are described as "mild."

Surette also said Nimitz has been at sea on predeployment training, and the new cases have not affected operations.

US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported on Monday there were 10,053 confirmed cases and 17 deaths caused by the virus nationwide.

The agency updates the figures on its website almost everyday, but never releases the cases confirmed in US Navy.
