"The blast occurred at 11:00 a.m. local time when the police vehicle ran over a mine planted next to Mirwais hospital in Kandahar city, the capital of Kandahar province, leaving one police dead and injuring another," a doctor at the hospital Abdul Wali told Xinhua.

Wali also said that the injured police had been taken to the hospital for medical treatment.

Taliban militants have intensified their activities in Kandahar as a roadside bomb organized by the outfit left five Canadians including four soldiers and a journalist dead a week ago.
