NEW DELHI - At least 11 people have died in the last 24 hours due to intense cold wave in the Indian capital Delhi, a senior official said Sunday.
"The death toll is 11, with all the victims succumbing to extreme cold conditions in the national capital. We have ordered a probe into the deaths," he said on condition of anonymity.
The victims were all homeless people, the official added.
The anti-graft Aam Aadmi Party had promised night shelters for all homeless people, after forming the government in the Indian capital barely a month ago.
Cold wave and fog are common in northern India, particularly during the winter months of December and January.
