Hitting the right note with children

"We consider three things when we're selecting bands for our festival– musicianship, the values in the lyrics, and the expressiveness of their live performances," Liu shared.

"We don't select bands who make music that talks down to kids or is too simplistic; we prefer organic music of any genre, such as rock, jazz, reggae, and funk," Liu said.

To aptly convey the messages behind the lyrics, Liu has five translators translate each song into Chinese before deciding on the final version, which is projected onto the screen during the band's performance.

Even though children may not understand the lyrics, their parents can explain them afterwards, which can be very educational, Liu explained.

To ensure a one-of-a-kind experience for audiences at every Hand in Hand show, they handpicked their experienced stage production team members, who used to work for the Summer Sonic Festival, a top music festival in Asia.
