Chen Tao, the show's director, says the aim of the show is to let people know about Chinese bands, and to help emerging talent.

"Some of the bands have distinctive styles inspired by local culture or ethnic groups. We hope to bring their voice to a wider audience," he says.

Nima, a Tibetan band featuring local instruments, is a representative example. Its four members, who can speak Mandarin, English, Tibetan and Nepali, mix local music with elements from ballads, Buddhist music and rap.
