Li, who spoke on Wednesday during an International Women’s Day reception at the Chinese embassy in Kenya, said the two countries are advancing bilateral relations as the Belt and Road Initiative progresses, hence development exchanges for women won't be left behind.

"My dear sisters, let's join hands, seize the opportunity, work more closely, and dedicate more efforts for a better future for both countries," she said.

Li said scenes of Chinese and Kenyan women working together are becoming more common at construction sites, in classrooms, offices and studios.

"I would like to express my sincere appreciation and respect to all sisters who are contributing to the cause of China-Kenya friendship and cooperation," Li said.
