The Hong Kong section of the Guangzhou-Shenzhen-Hong Kong Express Rail Link will officially open on Sept 23, extending the Chinese mainland high-speed railway network to the Hong Kong Special Autonomous Region.
The Guangzhou-Shenzhen-Hong Kong Express Rail Link is not only an important part of the country's high-speed railway network but also a significant achievement of the practice of the "one country, two systems". Its overall length is 141 kilometers, with the Hong Kong section's length being 26 km, and the high-speed trains will cover the distance between Hong Kong's West Kowloon station and Shenzhen's Futian station in only 14 minutes.
The mainland section of the Guangzhou-Shenzhen-Hong Kong Express Rail Link was fully functional by the end of 2015.
Hong Kong funded the construction of the section in the special administrative region, and has designated the Mainland Port Area at the West Kowloon station, which has been operating since Sept 4.
Sales of the tickets for the high-speed trains, which will connect 44 mainland cities and Hong Kong via the Guangzhou-Shenzhen-Hong Kong Express Rail Link, started on Monday.
Passengers can book tickets at the ticket counters, or through vending machines, telephone hotlines or official websites. And one person can buy a maximum of eight tickets, which should mandatorily include one for himself or herself.
