China ranked among the top two countries with the largest ultra-high-net-worth populations in the world in 2017, according to data from research company Wealth-X.
Although the United States remained the leading residence for UHNW individuals in 2017, accounting for a 31 percent share, the growth rate in its ultra-wealthy population and their net worth was weak last year.
According to the latest edition of the Wealth-X World Ultra Wealth Report, China's financial center Hong Kong dethroned the New York metropolitan area as the world's largest ultra-high-net-worth city in 2017, with rapid growth in UHNW population. "UHNW population" refers to individuals with a net worth of $30 million or more.
China had at least 26,885 UHNW population members last year, as the county demonstrated strong economic growth momentum in the decades since China's reform and opening-up.
Noticeably, the number of female UHNW population members rose rapidly worldwide to nearly 35,000, taking a record-high share of 13.7 percent last year.
Statistics showed the world's UHNW population rose 12.9 percent to 255,810 people, and their combined wealth surged 16.3 percent to $31.5 trillion in 2017.
Let's take a look at the top 5 countries with the most super-rich individuals.
