The Inner Mongolia autonomous region is expecting to further expand economic ties with the rest of the world by strengthening cooperation with South China's Guangdong province, the country's window of reform and opening-up.

Shang Zhiqiang, deputy director general of the Inner Mongolia Department of Commerce, said Guangdong, which borders Hong Kong and Macao, is one of the country's economic powerhouses and has rich experience using offshore investment and seeking Sino-foreign cooperation.

"Strengthening cooperation with Guangdong province will help Inner Mongolia increase sales of its agricultural and livestock products abroad and expand our economic ties with other countries and regions around the world," Shang said.

"(Cooperation with Guangdong) is a win-win deal, as Inner Mongolia is abundant in agricultural and livestock products and tourism resources," said Shang.

Shang made his remarks at a press conference in this Guangdong provincial capital on Wednesday to promote the trade fair the Inner Mongolia government will organize in Guangzhou to boost sales of Inner Mongolia's abundant green agricultural and livestock products.

More than 240 Inner Mongolian companies will participate in the fair, to be held in Guangzhou's Poly World Trade Center Expo from Oct 31 to Nov 4, Shang said.

In addition to increasing sales, the Inner Mongolia companies are urged to spare no effort to expand economic and trade cooperation with other companies from around the world during the fair, according to Shang.

Shang said Inner Mongolia has promised to open its door wider to the outside world and seek more opportunities to expand economic cooperation and cultural exchanges with more foreign nations and regions in the years to come.
