A 70-year-old man in Hunan province trying to get a driver's license so he could take care of his mother missed his last chance on Monday before he exceeded the upper age limit.
Applicants for driver's licenses in China need to be aged 18-70 years old.
Born in 1949, Tan Xiangzhen, a Zhuzhou city resident, applied for a license last year so he could drive his 89-year-old mother to hospital appointments, according to a report on Voc, a provincial news website.
He failed the test for the third time however on Monday, one day before his 70th birthday, meaning he cannot take the test again.
Voc reported that older people like Tan applying for licenses typically do so to help their families.
