Are bike lanes a good idea?

Editor's note: The first bicycle-only road in Beijing opened on May 31. The 6.5-kilometer road, forbidden to entry by pedestrians, electric bicycles and other vehicles, is expected to ease traffic congestion and encourage people to commute by bicycle. Forum readers share their opinions.

These look like pretty good bike lanes. They are wider than the bike lanes in Australia and having a barrier is also a great idea. Good work China.
