A South Korean on Interpol's red notice list has been repatriated after a memorandum of understanding was signed on Thursday in Guangzhou, capital of Guangdong province.
The man, surnamed Kim and born in 1973, was taken on board flight KE866, which took off Thursday at 12:40 pm in Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport, to be brought back to South Korea.
Kim was placed on Interpol's red notice list after he was suspected to have defrauded more than 2 billion South Korean won (about $170 million) via low-interest loans in South Korea between January 2015, and January 2018.
Kim was detained in Guangdong on May 15 when Guangdong police launched a further investigation having received a tip from South Korea's consulate general in Guangzhou.
Kim was repatriated at the request of South Korean police.
The memorandum was signed by Zhang Yan, deputy director of the General Office with the Guangdong Provincial Department of Public Security, and Song Boe Been, liaison officer, Interpol Office of National Police Agency of ROK.
According to a statement released by Guangdong Provincial Department of Public Security, the repatriation of Kim shows the positive cooperation between China and South Korea in pursuing and capturing fugitives who have escaped abroad.
"And it also demonstrates Chinese police's high efficiency and zero tolerance of cross-border crimes," said the statement.
