Six people have been held responsible for the collapse of an overpass in Wuxi, Jiangsu province, on Thursday, police in the city said, adding that the results of an investigation into the incident will be released publicly as soon as possible.

Five of the people held responsible, including the boss of a transport company, have been placed under criminal detention. Coercive measures have been applied to a truck driver surnamed Wang, who is receiving treatment at hospital due to serious injuries sustained in the collapse.

The three dead were the single father of a 16-year-old girl, a female teacher and her daughter, who had just started kindergarten.

Wuxi's city government has formed an investigation team to probe the incident. Five experts from across the country have been invited to join the investigation work, Legal Daily reported.

The investigation officially started on Friday. The experts are gathering materials and researching laws and regulations to analyze the incident.

Topstar, the designer of the overpass, said on Saturday that its design met all safety standards.

It said on its website that it will explain the design and hopes the investigation result will be released soon.

The company also said the Wuxi rescue headquarters had reached a preliminary conclusion that the collapse was caused by overloaded trucks.
