Editor's note: The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region government introduced the anti-mask law on Oct 4, which bans people from wearing masks during protests and assemblies in a bid to put an end to escalating violence and restore order. Offenders face imprisonment of up to one year and a fine of HK$25,000. Readers share their opinions.

New York State's anti-mask law was enacted in 1845. In 2010 the French ban face covering in almost all situations in public places. Denmark outlaws such practices in the context of public assemblies, such as demonstrations. Germany outlaws masks, etc, at public assemblies. Norway, Spain and Sweden outlaw face covering at public events, such as demonstrations. The rioters in H.K. should have to pay for damage they create.
