Wang Wenbin tapped as new FM spokesperson

Former Chinese ambassador to Tunisia Wang Wenbin took up his new post as deputy director-general of the Information Department under the Foreign Ministry and the ministry’s 32nd spokesperson.

Wang, 49, has served in diplomatic missions for over 20 years, mainly engaged in the area of policy planning of China’s diplomacy and affairs of African countries.

The experienced diplomat started his career in the Information Department of the Foreign Ministry in 1993, then worked in the Chinese embassy to Senegal in 1994 and the Chinese consulate to Douala, Cameroon in 1996.

He worked in the Department of European Affairs in the Foreign Ministry for two years since 1997, then moved to the Policy Planning Department in 1999.

Wang also worked in the General Office of the Foreign Ministry as well as the General Office of the State Council.

In 2006, he became the political counselor at the Chinese embassy to Mauritius.

Before working as ambassador to Tunisia in 2017, he was deputy director-general of the Policy Planning Department of the Foreign Ministry.
