Former HK police chief says election postponement 'rational', 'logical'

Former Hong Kong police commissioner Tang King-shing said it would be "rational and logical" for the National People's Congress Standing Committee to offer local authorities a "clearer direction" on how to address the power vacuum created by the yearlong postponement of the Legislative Council election. He also said settling the issue quickly is vital to securing normal functions of the city's legislature and ensuring Hong Kong's prosperity and stability.

During a four-day meeting that began Saturday, the NPCSC will deliberate a proposal put forward by the State Council about the normal operations of LegCo for the following year. The proposal was submitted after Hong Kong Chief Executive Carrie Lam Cheng Yuet-ngor delivered a report to the State Council on July 28.
