Trump to ban downloads of WeChat, TikTok in US on Sept 20

China resolutely opposes US ban on the popular video-sharing app TikTok and social and electronic payment app WeChat, Commerce Ministry said in a statement on its website on Saturday.

The US Commerce Ministry's ban on US transactions with the two apps owned by Chinese companies seriously undermines the legitimate rights of companies, and disrupts the normal market order, the statement said.

The US decision, based on zero evidence, seriously disrupts normal operations of the companies and undermines international investors' confidence in US environment for investment, and hurts the normal international economic and trade order, added the statement.

China urges the US to give up bullying acts, stop wrong deeds immediately, uphold fair and transparent international norm and order. If the US persisits, China will definitely take necessary countermeasures to safeguard the legitimate rights and interests of Chinese companies, said the statement.
