More than 2,300 candidates from 55 countries sat the first test on the capacity of Chinese language application on Dec 21 in the Eastern Hemisphere and Western Hemisphere. The test is only open to foreigners and Chinese students studying abroad, offering an opportunity for those engaged in business with China to enhance their career competitiveness.
Held by Chinese Accreditation Test for Translators and Interpreters, the test, known as CATTI International, has been listed as a key cooperation project by educational or cultural authorities of many countries. Different from CATTI's other tests, the new test focus on the real-life translation ability rather than academic performance.
As the exchange between China and the other part of the world keeps increasing, language capacity is seen as a key to better communication and dispel misunderstanding.
People with proficient translation ability will play a role in serving the globalized world and promoting cultural exchanges, said Huang Youyi, chief advisor of the Academic Committee of CATTI International.
CATTI International adopts an internationally-accepted test management mode and provides professional one-stop service for global candidates. Against the backdrop of COVID-19 pandemic, the first test was held online and taken at home to fully protect the health of candidates and test staff.
The first test covers three languages: English, Korean and Japanese.
