SOHAG, Egypt - At least 32 were killed and 66 others wounded as two trains collided on Friday in Egypt's southern province of Sohag, said a Health Ministry statement.

At least 36 ambulances were sent to the scene and transferred the wounded to four public hospitals nearby, according to the ministry statement.

A passenger train rear-ended another one with air-conditioning system in Tahta city, 467 km from the capital Cairo, causing three carriages to be derailed, an official security source told Xinhua on condition of anonymity.

"The accident was horrible, and the people helped the security men find the wounded inside the damaged carriages," an eyewitness said.

Some bodies are still stuck inside the three carriages, he added, without revealing his name.
