China's civil aviation sector saw a rebound in domestic market in March, and expects another boom in the upcoming Labor Day holiday in May.

The sector handled 47.68 million passenger trips last month, surpassing the figure in the same period in 2019, according to the Civil Aviation Administration of China.

It handled 655,000 metric tons of mail and cargo in the same period, an increase of 3.7 percent compared with 2019.

The five-day Labor Day holiday in the beginning of May will be a good time to travel and the demand for the civil aviation services will significantly grow, said Shang Kejia, deputy director of the administration's transport department, at a news conference on Friday.

According to booking agents, the traffic during the Labor Day holiday in May may surpass the number in 2019, she added.

Bao Yi, deputy director of the administration's planning development department, said the sector is recovering, but also facing challenges, such as low international traffic.
