Beijing on Wednesday began a new round of voting mobilization to inform citizens on the upcoming elections of new deputies to county- and township-level people's congress in November.

In Beijing's Dongcheng district, dozens of residents came to the desk organized by local communities on Wednesday morning, asking about procedures to register and vote, as well as relevant legislations.

Miao Lili, director of the Weijia community at Jingshan street in Dongcheng district, said in August they started the door-to-door mobilization and tried their best to make more people in the community realize the importance of grassroots voting.

"We're a middle-sized community in the capital city's core area, and in 2016 around 2,100 people voted in our community," said Miao. "This year in November, I hope our residents will be more motivated and we'll gain more votes."

Hong Yongwang, a 71-year-old resident at Weijia community, said the voting mobilization made him more aware about the elections of the people's congress.

"I knew a lot through communications with the community staff. Once I understood how it works, I would be more willing to be a part of it," he said.

According to the Beijing Municipal People's Congress, the elections of deputies to county- and township-level people's congresses in Beijing have already been in full swing.

Nearly 4,900 deputies to district-level people's congresses and more than 10,000 deputies to county- and township-level people's congresses will be chosen in November, it said.
