A ceremony was held on Friday to celebrate the 70th anniversary of Peking University's inauguration of international student education.
In the past seven decades, more than 110,000 foreign students from 195 countries around the world have studied at Peking University, serving as bridges connecting China with the rest of the world, said Wang Bo, vice-president of the Peking University.
Joseph Olivier Mendo'o, a PhD student from Cameroon, addressed the event as a representative of overseas students.
"China and Africa have same dreams, tasks, and pursuits. China's successful experience can help align the Chinese Dream with the African Dream, and realize common development."
Mendo'o said he will serve as a bridge and a cultural ambassador that connects China with the rest of the world by telling Chinese stories to the world.
New Zealand's ambassador to China Clare Fearnley, who is an alumna of Peking University, said she developed a deep friendship with her Chinese teachers and classmates during her time at the school, and every time she goes back to the school, it feels like coming back home.
Justin Lin Yifu, dean of the Institute of South-South Cooperation and Development of the school, said Peking University welcomes students from all developing countries to study and research new development theories to provide guidance for the common development of developing countries.
Wang Bo, the vice-president of Peking University, said the school will strive to make more contributions to promoting international people-to-people exchanges and to building a community with a shared future for mankind.
