Trucks loaded with sugarcane from Laos completed entry procedures at the Mengman port on the China-Laos border in Xishuangbanna Dai autonomous prefecture, Yunnan province, earlier this month, marking the beginning of cross-border transport of sugarcane between the two countries during the 2022-23 season.
Sugarcane has played a major part in agricultural economic cooperation between China and Laos. The port has received about 3,488 metric tons of the fruit from Nov 3 to 7, with a value of 1.15 million yuan ($158,000), local statistics showed.
The Mohan border inspection station, which administrates the Mengman port, said it will optimize customs clearance procedures and improve efficiency to promote the local economy while preventing the spread of the COVID-19 epidemic.
