Chinese apples a sweet import for Indonesia

At Pingliang Customs in Gansu province, 67.3 metric tons apples arrived for export to Indonesia.

The apples, from Jingning county, which is administered by Pingliang city, are famous for their sweet taste and crispy texture. They can be stored for a long time, which makes them popular in the Indonesian market, said Xie Liling, trade manager of the local Long Yuanhong Fruits Selling Co. November is harvest season for Jingning apples.

Indonesia is one of the top five trading partners of Gansu. Aquatic products and minerals from Indonesia entered Gansu. Agricultural products such as apples and garlic are common on the dining tables of Indonesian people, said Huang Zhiheng, an official from Lanzhou Customs. The number of categories of goods traded between the two regions increased dramatically this year.

Exports and imports between Gansu and Indonesia surged six times year-on-year to reach 2.89 billion yuan ($400 million) from January to October, according to Lanzhou Customs. Of that, imports from Indonesia hit 2.56 billion yuan — tenfold growth.
