Initiative to Establish the Tengchong Science Award

Given the coming annual Tengchong Scientists' Forum, academicians Gu Binglin, Xu Zhihong, Rao Zihe hereby propose the initiative to establish the Tengchong Science Award. This is a move with the vision of implementing deeply the guiding principles of the 20th CPC National Congress, and inspiring young scientists to contribute to their motherlands and people, stand conscientious about research by pursuing the truth, dare to be a pioneer to climb new heights, make more original world-leading accomplishments, and lead the future development of science and technology.

It is planned to establish the Tengchong Science Award Foundation Committee to receive donations from entrepreneurs and all walks of life. The Tengchong Science Award will be granted to 2 or 3 scientists every year at the annual Tengchong Scientists' Forum.

The Tengchong Science Award will focus on science & engineering, industry, agriculture, medicine and interdisciplinary disciplines. Candidates for the Award will include scientists who have made major scientific breakthroughs at the frontiers of science and technology, or significant contributions in promoting national progress in science and technology by establishing powerful independent intellectual property rights and independent brands through technological innovation. Eligible entries for the Award will be mainly from China, South Asia, and Southeast Asia, and there will be no limit on the nationality of the applicants.

The Tengchong Science Award Foundation Committee will draw up a review mechanism for the Tengchong Science Award by referring to such international awards as the Nobel Prize and the Turing Award. The review mechanism will include the nomination invitation system and the international peer review system. The Tengchong Science Award Foundation Committee will organize a review and selection committee consisting of experts with good ethical quality, deep academic knowledge, and enthusiasm for science and technology awards in related fields. The Committee will be responsible for reviewing candidates for the award, selecting the award winners, and issuing award certificates and bonuses in accordance with the principles of impartiality, fairness and public transparency.
