Declaration of the Tengchong Scientists' Forum

Science and technology are the primary productive force, an endogenous drive of economic prosperity, and an important attribute of human civilization. Scientific and technological innovation is required for achieving Chinese-style modernization, for meeting the people's yearning for a better life, and for building a community with a shared future for mankind.

In 2022 we will gather in Tengchong, China, to pool scientific and technological ideas to drive innovation; build an exchange platform to deepen scientific cooperation; contribute our scientific strength to counter human challenges; and carry forward the spirit of science to promote impartiality in innovation. The purpose, vision, mission and strategy of the Tengchong Scientists' Forum are as follows:

Purpose

- Science and technology lead the future

Vision

- Develop the Forum into a world-class science and technology forum with Chinese characteristics, promote dialogue between the Chinese and world science academia, and boost global progress in science and technology.

Mission

- Provide a high-level platform for dialogue between the world's top scientists, government officials, entrepreneurs, scientific research institutions and universities; promote international exchanges and cooperation in science and technology; address challenges emerging in development; provide scientific and technological solutions; and allow the scientists to express their academic views.

- Build a global community of innovation; promote cross-cultural, cross-regional exchanges among scientists, and reach a global consensus that scientific and technological innovation is a necessary way to drive sustainable development in all countries.

- Create an ideal ecosystem for science and technology innovation, and allow more young scientists to show their talents, and more scientific and technological resources to be shared globally.

Strategy

- Regularly hold various meetings, such as annual meetings of the Forum, and other seminars, academicians' forums, lectures, etc., to discuss major issues in science and technology.

- Actively cooperate with countries around the world in tackling key scientific and technological challenges and issuing lists of global achievements in science and technology, and set up a variety of lists of awards for field-specific scientific and technological innovation.

- Set up the Tengchong Science Award.

- Conduct research activities around the purpose of the Forum.

- Strive to become a high-end think tank and a training center specialized in science and technology.

- Establish a specialized operating agency to achieve the vision of the Tengchong Scientists' Forum.

We believe that science and technology are the primary productive force for the prosperity and development of any country or region.

We emphasize that self-reliance, self-improvement, as well as open exchanges and cooperation in science and technology are equally important to any country or region.

We hope that technology will lead our future, benefit our people, and boost balanced global development.

we advocate:

- Promoting the deep integrative development between science & technology and the economy, society, culture, education, ecology, etc.

- Working together to tackle key technological challenges, meet the major needs and realize the economic prosperity of countries around the world with science and technology as a powerful tool.

- Deepening global exchanges and cooperation in science and technology, to turn more scientific and technological achievements into global public goods.

- Respecting differences among scientists from different countries and their respective cultures, and jointly creating a friendly ecosystem for scientific and technological innovation.

- Carrying forward the spirit of science, the spirit of scientists, as well as the academic spirit of the National Southwest Associated University that values constant hard work for self-perfection.

- Strictly abiding by ethics regarding academics, science and technology.

We firmly believe that science and technology shall serve all human beings around the world. The Tengchong Scientists' Forum shall surely participate deeply in the global governance on science and technology and constantly share Chinese wisdom.
