Hubei inherits Enshi Yulu green tea culture

chinadaily.com.cn | Updated: 2022-12-09 14:32

Enshi Yulu is a famous green tea produced in Enshi city, Central China's Hubei province. It originated from the Tang Dynasty (618-907), thrived during the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911) and has survived to the modern day. One traditional processing method, steaming, deactivates the enzymes of tea leaves, giving it a special color and flavor.

Enshi Yulu is well known both at home and abroad. It was listed in the national intangible cultural heritage in 2014. Over recent years, relying on rich tea resources, the local government put a lot of efforts into cultivating inheritors for making Enshi Yulu tea, passing on this traditional technique and tea culture.
