Dozens held responsible for fatal accidents in Guizhou

Guizhou province's disciplinary inspection and supervision organs have held dozens of personnel and departments accountable over the failure to perform their duties in three production safety accidents, according to an official statement issued on Monday.

On Jan 3 last year, a landslide occurred while construction workers were strengthening the slope at a hospital building in the city of Bijie, resulting in 14 deaths and three injuries, as well as direct economic losses of 28.5 million yuan ($4.15 million).

The provincial disciplinary inspection and supervision organs held 27 people and 11 departments accountable, including Bijie's housing and urban-rural development bureau. Three of the people were transferred to judicial organs for prosecution.

Another accident at a coal mine in Qianxinan Bouyei and Miao autonomous prefecture on Feb 25 last year caused 14 deaths and direct economic losses of 22.8 million yuan. Seven departments including the prefecture's energy bureau and natural resources bureau were held accountable. In addition, 39 people were given disciplinary and administrative penalties.

In another case on March 2 last year, a coal and gas outburst in a mine in Qingzhen in Guiyang caused eight deaths and 13 injuries, and direct economic losses of 33.6 million yuan.

Seven departments including Guiyang's industry and information technology bureau, as well as 25 personnel, were held accountable. Among them, four were transferred to judicial organs for prosecution.
