Student activities add fun to holiday life

Primary and middle school students in Shandong’s Guanxian county have found a nice place to spend their summer vacation — the Xusong residential community in Liaocheng city.

Since July, there have been volunteers at the community on Chongwen Street helping them with their homework, and it is also possible to play chess and learn calligraphy.

“I’m happy to take part in the activities, and I’ve learned a lot and made friends here,” said Liu Zihong, a fourth-grader living in the community.

Xusong is one of many local communities that have rolled out science popularization, safety education, and history learning experiences for students during the summer vacation.

Based on their interests and hobbies, children can take courses in calligraphy, chess, handicrafts, and table tennis, enlivening the holidays.

The move is part of efforts by local authorities to help parents take care of their children, by spicing up vacation life.
