China's parcel delivery sector shows robust growth

China's parcel delivery sector continued to record resilient growth this year, with 105.17 billion items handled from January to October, a year-on-year increase of 17 percent, according to the State Post Bureau of China on Monday.

Among those items, a total of 10.83 billion parcels were delivered and received within designated locales (for example, a parcel delivered from one place in Beijing to another place in the city) from January to October, an increase of 2.7 percent year-on-year.

During the 10-month period, domestic express delivery nationwide saw a robust growth of 18.2 percent over the previous year, with 91.92 billion items delivered.

Notably, the sector's international delivery business, including the areas of Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan, witnessed a significant growth rate of 55.1 percent in the first 10 months of this year, with 2.42 billion items shipped.

Also during that period, the revenue of China's parcel delivery sector reached 964.38 billion yuan ($134.39 billion), 12.3 percent higher than the previous year.

From January to October, the number of parcels handled in designated locales accounted for 10.3 percent of the total volume. Nationwide shipments made up the lion's share of the volume, accounting for 87.4 percent, while international shipments accounted for 2.3 percent.

China's parcel delivery sector has continued to grow over the past decade. Last year, the sector handled more than 110.5 billion parcels across the country. The total volume for this year is expected to exceed last year's volume.
