Myanmar's military and three ethnic armed groups have reached an official cease-fire following a new round of China-mediated talks held this past week in Kunming in Southwest China's Yunnan province, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Mao Ning said on Friday.
Both sides have agreed to implement an immediate ceasefire, disengage their military personnel and settle disputes through peace negotiations.
They also promised not to compromise the safety of Chinese people living near the border and Chinese projects and personnel in Myanmar, said Mao, who shared details of the talks at a news conference.
She called on all parties to earnestly implement the agreement, exercise maximum restraint and address issues through dialogue.
China will continue to do what it can to support the peace process in northern Myanmar, she said.
China has facilitated talks and called for a "soft landing" of tensions since the conflict broke out in northern Myanmar in late October.
In December, the rival forces held talks in China, where they agreed to a temporary cease-fire.
"It is in the interest of all parties in Myanmar, and helps maintain peace and stability of China-Myanmar border areas to keep up the momentum of ceasefire and peace talks," Mao said.
