Shanghai vowed to accurately meet the needs of talent from home and abroad and continue to create a world-class environment for talent development in the New Year, said Gong Zheng, mayor of Shanghai, on Saturday.

Talents' needs in the fields of obtaining residence permits, settlement, and entry and exit among others will all be better catered to, said Gong during a municipal press conference after the conclusion of the annual plenary sessions of the city's legislative and political advisory bodies.

"The relevant reform measures, such as the preferential services for global talent and full-cycle talent services, will be optimized and improved continuously," he said.

Gong said that Shanghai will make increasing efforts to build world-class platforms for basic scientific research, industrial innovation, and science and technology services, so as to form a strong magnetic field for attracting and gathering talent.

"Regarding Shanghai's pyramid-shaped talent structure, its tower base has become thicker and the spire has become sharper these years. Through the implementation of the "Talent Peak" project and others, several strategic scientists and internationally renowned scholars with leading capabilities in their respective fields have been introduced into the city, said Gong.
