An ethnic music concert was held at the Moscow International House of Music on the evening of Jan 30, as part of the 2024 "Happy Chinese New Year" celebrations in Russia.
The concert was organized by the Chinese Ministry of Culture and Tourism and the Chinese embassy in the Russian Federation, and staged by artists from the China Coal Mine Art Troupe.
Chinese Ambassador to Russia Zhang Hanhui and his wife, First Deputy Chairman of the Russian State Duma and Chairman of the Russia-China Friendship Association Ivan Melnikov, Russian Deputy Minister of Culture Andrey Malyshev, and other Chinese and Russian guests attended the event.
Under the theme of "Ancient Melodies in Ancient Books", the concert featured nearly 50 ancient musical pieces from more than 50 ancient books. The concert, based on a deep respect for the ancient scores, was arranged with modern techniques and led the audience to feel the charm of the ancient music through rich stage expressions.
The concert included solo performances of ruan (a plucked stringed instrument), pipa (a four-stringed Chinese lute), as well as performance of plucked and percussion ensemble. The audience also enjoyed performances of sheng (a Chinese mouth-blown reed instrument) and percussion ensemble, sanxian (a three-stringed plucked musical instrument) and guzheng (a Chinese zither with more than 20 strings) ensemble, and other forms of performance.
