Northwestern Polytechnical University has just rolled out a cutting-edge winged drone that boasts the most agile and bird-like flying maneuvers in its category.
Dubbed the Xiaosun, meaning little falcon in Chinese, this drone is the brainchild of Chen Ang, a researcher and PhD from the biomimetic flapping wing research group at Northwestern Polytechnical University in Xi'an, Shaanxi province.
Its groundbreaking propulsion system sets it apart, allowing synchronized wing flapping and folding during flight. This innovation enables the drone to pull off its class's most agile and bird-like flying maneuvers.
But it doesn't stop there — Xiaosun's wings are designed with a biomimetic structure based on anatomical principles. These principles ensure superior agility and efficiency during flight.
This new invention opens up new horizons for the design and research of bio-inspired flying robots, with promising applications in fields such as ecological monitoring and environmental protection.
